Descanso de Reyes

Pravia es una villa noble y señorial, en la que casi se puede imaginar la vida en el siglo XVIII, al que pertenecen buena parte de sus edificios más interesantes: el conjunto barroco de la plaza Sabino Moutas con La Colegiata, el Palacio de Moutas y las Casas de Los Canónigos.

En una ubicación privilegiada, por su cercanía al mar y su accesibilidad desde los principales núcleos urbanos, Pravia está en una de las zonas más fértiles de Asturias. Sus extensas vegas regadas por los ríos Nalón y Narcea, que tienen los más afamados pozos salmoneros y que forman la cuenca más caudalosa del Principado, producen sus afamadas fabas y kiwis.

La red de miradores ofrece la oportunidad de asomarse a los paisajes más característicos del municipio. Santianes, joya del prerrománico, alberga la iglesia de San Juan Apóstol y Evangelista, la más antigua de esta arquitectura en Asturias.

Los emigrantes que retornaron con fortuna de las Américas en los siglos XIX y XX, dejaron en Pravia un rico patrimonio arquitectónico con Somao, pueblo ejemplar de Asturias 2020, como uno de los conjuntos de arquitectura indiana mejor conservados.

A Royal Retreat

Pravia is a noble and stately town, where it’s easy to imagine life in the 18th century. Many of its most notable buildings date from this period, such as the baroque ensemble of Sabino Moutas Square, home to La Colegiata, the Palace of Moutas, and the Canons’ Houses.

Set in a privileged location, close to the sea and easily accessible from Asturias’s main urban centres, Pravia lies in one of the region’s most fertile areas. The broad floodplains nourished by the Nalón and Narcea rivers, home to Asturias’s most famous salmon pools, produce prized crops like faba beans and kiwi fruit.

A network of scenic viewpoints offers sweeping vistas of the area’s diverse landscapes. The village of Santianes, a gem of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture, is home to the Church of San Juan Apóstol y Evangelista, the oldest surviving example of its kind in Asturias.

Pravia also preserves the legacy of indianos, the emigrants who returned from the Americas in the 19th and 20th centuries and left behind a rich architectural heritage. The village of Somao, named Exemplary Town of Asturias in 2020, is one of the finest and best-preserved collections of indiano architecture in the region.
