FIESTAS DE SANTA MARÍA MAGDALENA Y SAN ROQUE 

Julio y Agosto

La mañana del 22 de julio, se traslada a Santa María Magdalena hacia la Basílica y, tras la misa y procesión, comienza el gran Festival Folklórico, donde se forma la Danza Prima, acto que se repite al anochecer cuando comienza la romería.

Una fiesta tradicional llanisca es San Roque, con el 16 de agosto como día grande y la Siempreviva, distintivo del Bando de San Roque desde finales del siglo XIX. La Danza peregrina, el festival de bandas de gaitas, o las verbenas en la vega de la Portilla completan una fiesta con raíces en el siglo XIII, vinculada al Camino de Santiago de la Costa.

ST MARY MAGDALENE AND ST ROCH FESTIVALS

July and August

On the morning of July 22nd, the image of St Mary Magdalene is carried to the Basilica. After Mass and the procession, the Folklore Festival begins, with the Danza Prima performed again at nightfall to open the outdoor celebration.

Another major festival in Llanes is San Roque, celebrated on August 16th. Since the 19th century, the immortelle flower has symbolized the Bando de San Roque. The Danza Peregrina, a bagpipe festival, and open-air dances in La Portilla meadow complete these celebrations, which date back to the 13th century and are closely tied to the Camino de Santiago.

FIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DE GUÍA

Septiembre

Una fiesta que destila antigüedad y solera marinera por los cuatro costados y es que Llanes le ofrece cumplida devoción a esta Virgen en una procesión nocturna plástica y colorista el 7 de septiembre, llevándola desde su ermita, que tiene 500 años, a la Basílica. La parada mirando al mar y los fuegos artificiales con cientos de mujeres ataviadas con mantilla española, blanca o negra, portando una vela en la mano y un nardo “flor distintiva del Bando de la Virgen de Guía” en la solapa, componen una estampa única en las angostas calles del casco histórico. La Danza de Arcos en la mañana del día 8 completa una fiesta genuina.

OUR LADY OF GUIDANCE FESTIVAL

September

One of Llanes’ most iconic celebrations, rooted in seafaring devotion. On September 7th, the image of Our Lady of Guidance is carried from her 500-year-old chapel to the Basilica. That night, fireworks light up the sea as hundreds of women in mantillas walk with candles and tuberose blossoms, the emblem of the Bando de la Guía pinned to their lapels. The narrow streets of Llanes’ old town become a stunning tableau of tradition and beauty. The festivities conclude the following morning, September 8th, with the performance of the Danza de Arcos.
