FIESTA DEL SOCORRO

El 5 de febrero de 1776 desaparecieron 15 embarcaciones con 225 tripulantes a bordo que salieron a faenar y una de las galernas más terribles que se recuerdan azotó la costa gozoniega. Sus familiares acudieron a la Iglesia de Luanco a implorar a la figura del Santísimo Cristo del Socorro el regreso de los desaparecidos y de manera milagrosa, las embarcaciones fueron llegando a puerto con todos sus tripulantes vivos. Por ello cada 5 de febrero Luanco celebra esta popular fiesta.

On February 5, 1776, fifteen fishing boats with 225 crew members disappeared during one of the most terrible storms ever recorded along the Gozón coast. Their families gathered at the Church of Luanco to pray to the figure of the Most Holy Aid of Jesus for their safe return. Miraculously, the boats began to return, each arriving safely with its crew alive. In gratitude, Luanco has celebrated this popular festival every February 5th since then.
