Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar

El Pilar, el mayor templo barroco de España, constituye uno de los santuarios más importantes del mundo católico. Monumento declarado Bien de Interés Cultural, su construcción arranca en el siglo XVII y termina en el XX. Es el primer templo mariano de la Cristiandad y en él se conserva y venera la columna (o pilar) que, según la tradición, fue puesta por la Virgen María al aparecerse en carne mortal al apóstol Santiago. Destaca su gran belleza y su impecable grandiosidad.

Su interior acoge  una riqueza artística de primer orden que reúne obras de gran valor de diferentes épocas. Destacan el Retablo Mayor del siglo XVI realizado en alabastro por Damián Forment, el Coro Mayor, el Órgano, la Santa Capilla y los frescos de Goya. Subir a la torre ofrece una espectacular vista panorámica de la ciudad.

Nuestra Señora del Pilar

The Pilar is the largest barroque temple in Spain. It is one of the most important shrines within the catholic world. The Pilar began being built in the XVII century and was finished in the XX century and is considered a monument of cultural interest. It was the first Christian Mariano Temple. It still preserves the column (or pilar) that, according to popular belief was put in place by the Virgin Mary  when she appeared in the flesh to the apostle Santiago. You can appreciate its great beauty and grandeur. 

The inside offers many different works of art from various periods of time. Most notably the main altarpiece from the XVI century made from alabaster by Damián Forment, the coro mayor, the organ, the holy chapel and frescos Goya. To discover a fantastic panoramic view of the city you have to climb the tower.
